John Spinks 1956-2002
Aston Martin
Steve Waddingham
I worked with John whilst he was at Aston Martin during the mid-1990s
(1994-95 I think?).
We kept in touch on and off since then - I traced him to his last
place of work (somewhere in Bedford, sorry I don't know the company
name) thru an amusing letter that he had wrote to a utterly boring
magazine (Marketing Week.) The letter pointed out that the Magazine
had referred to a Land Rover "Freeloader", I can't remember
what he wrote exactly - but it was funny. Having read the letter
I then realised that it was John and I tracked him down to his
new work place...
John only worked at Aston for a (by our standards!) relatively
short time - however, he made his mark on the place and entered
the "Aston Martin Hall of Fame" - in fact we were only
talking about him a couple of weeks ago.
John was always fun to work with, his driving was legendry (it
was always fun to see what shade of green passengers had turned
to when they got out of his car), his curly "Scouser"
hair-cut, his Caterham 7 (complete with a pile of base-ball hats
in the passenger footwell so you had a spare when your hat flew
off!) - best of all: you never knew what crazy thing he would
do next...
Happy memories, I'm sure everybody will remember John for his sense
of fun and we must continue to swap stories about him.
