John Spinks 1956-2002

Ode to Spinksy

John joined us feet first in 1956
And lived his life fast and mostly for kicks

He leaves today without saying goodbye
And we're all left here wondering why

Some will remember his great need for speed
And to their cost will have lent him their steed

With his own prancing horse he took a little more care
Probably because Karen was so easy to scare

But alas the Ferrari it had to go
In any case it was now too slow

In its place there were new company cars
The fastest things on earth those Jaguars

For himself he shunned the normal humdrum
And bought himself a super quick Caterham

But then a change from four onto two
And Ducati man was born , yes it was true

The leather clad Spinks rode from here and to there
And even to Le mans on that racing red chair

Until he saw sense and searching for a looker
Bought himself a TT, it was a left hooker

He'll be remembered for all sorts of reasons
His sporting prowess proving him a man for all seasons

Football, cycling rugby and even skiing
He'd try anything once just for the seeing

Some tried to show him a new sport with stick
But Golf is a car isn't it Mick?

His razor sharp humour will have left many a scar
The joker in the pack, by some and by far.

Some of his best friends fortunately cannot be here
They visited him often but not to great cheer

They said their piece more often than most
Usually via a brown envelope through the second class post

The police and loss adjuster he knew them both well
When the latter paid out at Lloyds they rang the bell

So think of John at your next insurance renewal
And smile that someone has benefited from all that toil

John joined us feet first in 1956
And lived his life fast and mostly for kicks

Hes not leaving today without saying goodbye
You'll keep seeing him there in the corner of your eye

He'll live on in Family and friends and not out of sight
But large as life on his brand new website.
